About the Show

Where Heavy Industry Actually Talks

The Dig Face is a podcast born from the job site, not the boardroom. The host has worked across coal mining, bulk earthworks and agriculture — so when someone talks about operating a 400 tonne excavator, managing a harvest, or running a port operation, this is a conversation between people who've actually been there.

Every episode is a proper yarn — no scripts, no PR polish, no corporate talking points. Guests range from operators and tradies to mine managers, executives, contractors and business owners across mining, construction, ports, earthworks and agriculture. The whole spectrum of heavy industry, all in one place.

Recorded in Mackay, Queensland — right in the heart of it all — and built for the people who keep Australia running.

About the Host

16 Years on the Tools. Now Telling the Stories.

Ryan Johnsen started in the seat and worked his way through to production supervisor across coal mining, bulk earthworks and agriculture — based in Mackay, Queensland, in the heart of North Queensland's mining country.

After 16 years watching the recruitment industry consistently miss what actually makes someone good on a site, Ryan started Frontline Talent Group — a recruitment business built on real operational knowledge, not keyword matching. The Dig Face grew out of that same frustration: the industry's best lessons were being shared over smoko and never recorded.

The Dig Face is his attempt to fix that — real conversations with real people who've actually done the work, recorded in Mackay and reaching everyone who's ever worked heavy industry anywhere in the country.
